I just watched Dr. Oz’s three day cleanse, and he uses this bath at the end of each day. I never watch TV, but Dr. Mark Hyman was on this episode, so I wanted to hear his viewpoint. Dr. Mark Hyman, MD has dedicated his career to identifying and addressing the root causes of chronic illness through a groundbreaking whole-systems medicine approach known as Functional Medicine. He is a family physician, a four-time New York Times bestselling author, and an internationally recognized leader in his field. Through his private practice, education efforts, writing, research, advocacy and public-policy work, he strives to improve access to Functional Medicine, and to widen the understanding and practice of it, empowering others to stop managing symptoms and instead treat the underlying causes of illness, thereby also tackling our chronic-disease epidemic (http://drhyman.com/about-2/about-dr-mark-hyman/). Just wanted to give a little background on him.
I love using lavender in my baths because it promotes relaxation and offers health benefits, such as improvement of mood, reduced aggression and a more positive outlook. This is a great bath to use during the holiday season with all the added stress from traveling, family outings, dinners, etc.
Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) draws impurities out of the skin, improves blood circulation, and aids in relaxation. Your body absorbs the magnesium and sulfate through your skin. The magnesium reduces pain and inflammation and the sulfates help flush out toxins. Side note: Epsom salt baths are a MUST after giving birth!
2 1/2 cups Epsom salts
10 drops of lavender oil
1. Fill bath tub with hot water
2. Pour in the Epsom salts
3. Add lavender drops
4. Relax and enjoy
I will be trying the three day cleanse, so I will let you all know my thoughts in an upcoming post. This will be a BIG challenge for me as I like something to chew/snack on during the day. Three days of just drinking food is hard – I prefer one day personally!
