Homemade Oatmeal Raisin Cookies – A Healthier Version


  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar (or substitute with honey)
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 large egg white, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil (or substitute with coconut oil)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup raisins, apricots, cranberries or whatever you like!
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup sifted cake flour
  • 1 cup whole-wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup ground flaxseed – optional (you can use this instead of the egg)
1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or spray with coconut oil
2. Mix together sugar, applesauce, egg white, oil and vanilla in a large bowl. Stir in the dried fruit of your choice. In a medium bowl, combine oats, cake flour, whole-wheat flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Combine the wet and dry ingredients. Place 1/2 cup ground flaxseed in 3 tablespoons of boiling water. Then combine with the dough.
3. Place the dough on the cooking sheet (1 spoonful and an inch and a half apart) and bake for about 15 minutes
